Scott’s Christmas Present // finished just under the wire

I have been working on these and avoiding these for the past two months.  Last night I was able to finish them up just in time for Christmas.  Since we are now here in Virginia, Scott needs something warm on his hands.  So, here are Scott’s Christmas Gloves…

Galadriel // Finally A New Pattern

Galadriel

I finally found the time to sit down and put together this pattern.  The Atlanta Knitters Guild Secret knit-a-long took place in June, 2009.  Since starting back to school I have not had time to do much designing or editing and so now it is November and the pattern, somehow, is complete and ready for sale.

Galadriel

I have another pattern in the queue and one in the head, so maybe I can stay motivated to get them out for you all soon.  The next Secret of the Stole Knit-A-Long will probably be next year sometime, but I have no idea when.  The two patterns that I have coming up are more narrow in theme and are really not suitable for a “world-wide” knit-a-long.  There will be another one, I just don’t know when.

October Socks for Sock Knitters Anonymous Complete // Bring On November

September 1st I challenged myself to knit a pair of socks a month following along with the Sock Knitters Anonymous group on Ravelry.  Here are my October socks:

Lots of Cables!

Lots of Cables!

Specs:

Pattern: Having Hope

Yarn: Trekking Pro Natura (Dark Grey Color)

Needles: #1US

Started: October 1, 2009

Completed: October 31, 2009

Notes: This was my first complete project with cables throughout.  It was a challenge and I learned lots of new things along the way.  One thing I did learn was how to do a Vikkel Braid which I really like!

Time to move on to November’s Socks.  Will post about those when I cast on.

Shoes for Trade // Yarn Trade Anybody?

Shoes for trade

I am putting these in a post on Ravelry as well, in case anyone there might be interested.  I have three pair of clear shoes that I purchase a while back.  One pair was to be for me, and two others were to be for gifts, when needed.  Problem is, everyone I know has feet my size…big!  All three pair are brand new, never worn and would look great with hand knit socks.  I wear an 8.5 shoe normally, so I bought a size 9 for myself.  Being a tennis shoe type of person, they just didn’t work for me, so I never wore them.  The other two pair are size 7 and 8.  Anyone interested in trading a pair for some yarn or anything else knitting related?

Let me know through the comments page…Thanks

September Sockdown Challenge 2009 Completed // Yay For Yellow Socks

I am happy to say that my yellow socks for the September 2009 Sock Knitters  Anonymous Sockdown Challenge are complete.  It took me 27 days to complete this pair of socks, which I worked on in between school work, at resturants, Auburn football games, etc…  They actually fit.  One of my goals for doing these challenges this year is to figure out what tweaks I need to make to sock patterns to make them fit my feet.  The only way I can figure this out is to make them and wear them.  So, here is the first completed pair.

Vitals:

Pattern: Seaweed Socks by Wendy Johnson

Technique: Toe Up on dpns

Needles: US #1

Yarn: Fingering Weight (from Susinok)

Cast On: September 1, 2009

Bind Off: September 27, 2009

Notes:

These socks were generally fun to do.  The pattern was easy to memorize and went fast.  I decided to reverse the waves on the second sock so they would lean the opposite way.  The notes on how I did this can be found here.  Short row heels with the w&t are not my thing, so I substituted a short row technique I found here to turn the heel.  It worked great!

Seaweed Socks

These are a dream to knit so far.  I took the liberty of reversing the pattern on the second sock so that the waves would lean the opposite direction.  Here is the link to the pattern and below are my specs on how to do the opposite sock.  I am making the large size and if you have the pattern you should be able to understand my modifications.  Enjoy!

Sock Knitters Anonymous // September Sockdown

I have decided to participate in the Sock Knitter’s Anonymous Challenge for the 2009-2010 year.  The challenge starts in September and runs through July.  September’s Challenge is to knit a pair of socks in one of three categories.  The categories are:  Sock Pair using solid or semi-solid yellow yarn; a sock designed by Wendy Johnson (any color); or the Mystery Sock created for the group by this month’s featured designer Nancy Bush.  I was going to do the mystery, but, have decided instead to do the yellow socks (because I had the yarn in my stash) and, as luck would have it, I also picked a Wendy Johnson pattern.  Here is the first photo:

Yarn is more orange in the photo and more yellow in person.

I am supposed to complete these socks within 2 months.  Shouldn’t be too difficult…famous last words…stay tuned.

Ebby Learns To Swim // Dogs On Thursday

Last week’s Dogs on Thursday post was not one that was planned.  Although we did expect the outcome eventually, it was not welcome.  Anyway, this week I can post photos of Ebby’s first experience with swimming.  While on our trip last week we were able to visit the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  If you own a dog and want to go to the beach with them, don’t go to Florida, go to North Carolina!  Florida does not welcome dogs!!  Anyway, Ebby was more than welcome on the beaches in Kill Devil Hills, NC and she learned to do a little dog paddle on her own.  Here are some shots of the trip and of her experience.  Enjoy.
